Carolina Cyber Network’s Fall Convening Featured Government Officials and National Cybersecurity Experts

November 16, 2023. The Carolina Cyber Network (CCN), consisting of eighteen institutions of higher learning in North Carolina, held its 5th semi-annual convening on November 2-3 at Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem.

Fayetteville Technical Community College is proud to announce that President Dr. Mark Sorrells has been named the NC TECH Association’s Tech Difference Maker of the Year.

NC TECH is a not-for-profit, membership-driven technology trade association with a membership of more than 600 companies, organizations and institutions employing more than 200,000 workers in North Carolina.

Fayetteville Technical Community College earns redesignation as National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense 2-Year Education

The National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security have redesignated Fayetteville Technical Community College as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Two-Year Education through the 2028 academic year. 

“Your ability to meet the increasing demands of the program criteria will serve the nation well in contributing to the protection of the National Information Infrastructure,” said National CAE Program Manager Renae Weathers in her notification letter to FTCC. 

White House’s National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy Features Carolina Cyber Network

The Carolina Cyber Network (CCN) is honored to have supported the drafting of the National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy and been highlighted in the report as a national leader in active workforce ecosystems. The Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) within the White House released the National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy (NCWES) on July 31, 2023. The document provides guidance for framing workforce strategies to address the nationwide shortage of cybersecurity professionals.

On February 7-8th, Members of Congress, the White House’s Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD), and NIST/NICE welcomed Dr. Mark Sorrells, Lawrence Young, and David Thompson, leaders of the Carolina Cyber Network (CCN), to D.C. to discuss the work happening at CCN. Cybersecurity concerns are a hot topic in Washington. With over 20,000 open cybersecurity jobs in North Carolina alone, employers are still looking for the right professionals. The White House, NSA, DoD and other agencies are looking for innovative solutions to the workforce delta issues in cybersecurity. During the visit, CCN leaders shared the vision behind the Network and the remarkable progress they have made in a short time.
